What’s in the Play! by Sephora – June 2016 Box

What's in the Play! by Sephora - June 2016 Box 2

I recently received my Play! by Sephora – June 2016 Box in the mail. For those unfamiliar with Play! by Sephora, it is a monthly beauty subscription launched by Sephora. You pay $10 a month and receive a box with the following:

– 5 deluxe samples plus a fragrance bonus
– Play! Book (a pamphlet which has information on the box contents + tips and tricks)
– Play! Pass (a card which allows you to redeem a free one-on-one tutorial + bonus points with any product purchase during the same store visit)

The only way to subscribe is online at Sephora.com/play – but you have to sign up for a waitlist and once a spot opens they will send you an e-mail to claim a spot and join. I don’t quite remember when I signed up for the waitlist, but I only recently got accepted. In April I got my first Play! by Sephora box, but never got around to putting up the post on the blog.

The June 2016 Box just arrived in the mail last week and I’m going to share my first impressions of the items – six sample-sized products wrapped in a super cute drawstring pouch. In the box was the following:

•Bumble and Bumble – Don’t Blow It (0.34 fl oz/10 ml)
•BECCA – Backlight Priming Filter (0.05 oz/1.55 g, swatched on lips here)
•Bareminerals – Bareskin Bronzer (0.05 fl oz/1.5 ml)
•tarte – Tarteguard 30 Sunscreen Lotion (0.1 fl oz/3 ml)
•Benefit – They’re Real Mascara (0.1 fl oz/3 ml)
•Tocca Beauty perfume in Florence (in a tiny vial)

I was excited to receive June’s Play Box because I didn’t what to expect this time around and the clues left everything up to the imagination. However, I’m happy with the results. Everything in the box is new to me with the exception of the Benefit – They’re Real Mascara (which I’ve purchased before and love). Can never have too much sunscreen so the tarte lotion should come in handy and the item I’m most excited about is the Becca priming filter.

Overall, I give the Play! by Sephora June 2016 Box a huge thumbs up. If you haven’t subscribed for these you can add your name to the wait list online at sephora.com/play – right now the only way to purchase a subscription is online. I think the wait time for each person is different depending on location. When I told a local Sephora sales rep that I got on the list she commented “Yeah, they started sending to our area.” There’s a page of FAQs here in case you have more questions.

Have any of you signed up for the Play! by Sephora Box? If you already signed up and received previous boxes what are your thoughts?

Benefit Dew the Hoola Matte Liquid Bronzer Review and Swatch

Dew the hoola bronzer

For the Spring Benefit released their long awaited Dew the Hoola Matte Liquid Bronzer ($28/1oz.). This is a liquid version of their best selling Hoola Matte Bronzer. This is the first time I’ve seen a liquid bronzer on the market so I was skeptical at first. However, I decided to give it a try and see for myself if it was worth the hype.

Benefit Dew the Hoola Matte Liquid Bronzer Review and Swatch

The new liquid bronzer can be just like its powder predecessor, on the entire face giving it life and color, as a contour to highlight certain parts of the face, or over your foundation to give a natural glow. The formula is lightweight and sheer but buildable. While its meant to be universal, it only comes in one shade, making me believe that this might not work as well on deep skin tones as a bronzer but more of a highlighter and those with fair skin might want to apply with a soft hand. The nice thing about this bronzer is that its buildable without looking cakey. Sp you can apply it to your liking.

To apply, I dispensed a small amount of the bronzer on the back of my hand (one pump) and used my fingers to place on areas of my face that I wanted to highlight/contour. So, on my forehead, the sides of my face, the hollows of my cheeks and both sides of my nose. And then I blended with my beauty blender. The results were impressive. It was lightweight, blended nicely and added glow to the face without any noticeable glitter or shimmer. Best of all lasted all day from morning to early evening. Now that’s impressive.

Compared to the Hoola Matte Bronzer, I would say its a nice companion. I like the powder for when I’m in a rush and just have enough time to swipe and go. But when I’ve got extra seconds I like to use the Dew the Hoola Matte Liquid Bronzer.

What do you think of the new liquid bronzer? Has anyone tried anything from the Benefit Hoola line? You can find the Benefit Dew the Hoola Matte Liquid Bronzer at Sephora, Birchbox, Ulta, and your local Benefits counter. It also comes as a mini in this kit (which I’ve just added to my cart). 😉
